Today I came to a realization: with the departure of my ex-roommate (who, after not speaking to me since she moved out, actually removed me from her FB friends’ list last week), I now have no ties to any of the so called “friends” I had in high school. Strangely enough, this may be a good thing; in hindsight, most of them were losers.

Let this be a lesson to you all out there: you’re only as good as the company you keep.

New Music: "Revenge of the Boom Bap":

This is the third song released from my upcoming album, “Self Portrait.” Honestly, I wanted people to hear this particular song when they listened to the album, but things don’t always work out the way you want them to. It originally debuted on a mixtape, “Studio Leaks & Nathan Crossley Present: The People’s Champs Vol. 2.” But even before its debut, the plan was for it to be on my album.

The track features guest verses from Ghost Dog and Tuscon,two emcees from Raleigh, NC who are members of the collective known as The Tribe of the 1100 Hunters (or at least Tuscon is; I think Ghost might have left the group recently). As the story goes, Ghost and Tu recorded their verses in real-time while teaching the youth about Hip-Hop in a class at the Wade Edwards Learning Lab. I wasn’t present when they did, but I wish I was. The production is handled by Vherbal, of the Anno Domini Beats crew. This is one of the three tracks he produced for my album.

As most Hip-Hop fans could probably tell, the title is inspired by KRS-One album “Return of the Boom Bap.” The track is your basic battle/braggadocio song, an ‘attack the wack people who are ruining Hip-Hop’ theme. And its not just baseless, we focus on certain types of people too: I diss emcees who try to awkwardly force multisyllabic words into their rhymes (“Trying to hard to spit multis, that’s what I’m annoyed with / it’s like rape: when you force it, you’re the only one who enjoys it”) while Tuscon has a few choice words for the unoriginal producers (“Give me some Premo, some Pete, or some Marley / I’m hardly in awe of these limited beatmakers since ‘The Symphony’ / lyrical epiphanies, producers, you be killing me / cut out that R&B baby-making samples, you’re making me nauseous”).

The song has already gotten some props; it was featured on GetDownSon.com, run by Adam “AWOL” Ardente. I’ve thought about adding some DJ scratches in the spaces where the hook should be (cause there is no hook), but this is where the song stands as of now.
